On January 12, 2012, with much anticipation and excitement, we traveled to Abilene, TX to attend Christian Homes and Family Services orientation class. The two day class taught us a lot about the adoption process. We had the privilege of listening and asking questions to two adult women who were adopted through Christian Homes when they were children. Also on the panel, we met three birth mothers who placed their children through Christian Homes. The class had a question and answer time with them as well which was an eye-opening conversation for most of us there. They helped expose some of the myths of adoption from the perspective of the birth mother. The last group on the panel consisted of two couples who had one child each which had been adopted through the agency. The question and answer time with the adoptive parents was equally as helpful, leaving us encouraged.
We also learned about the agency itself and the staff, many of whom have worked there for over 20 years. Although it is expected, the staff really do have big hearts for children, birth mothers, and adoptive parents. This agency is Christ centered which is very important to us as we go through this complex and emotional process.
As we drove back to Dallas we found our hearts encouraged by the Lord and we decided that this is the agency that we want to move forward with. Our next steps include filling out the LARGE amount of paperwork, getting the funds in order to pay for the services, CPR classes, a home study, and the list goes on.... We will keep you posted along the way!
Thank you for reading and thank you for your support and prayers!
